Graduated Driver's License

Sometimes parents are unaware of their children's driving record. If your child is under the age of 18, the Secretary of State's Office will even provide a parent or legal guardian with an abstract of their child's driver's license.

Often times teenagers with Graduated Driver's Licenses either forget or are unaware of the restrictions placed on them by the Illinois Secretary of State's Office until they reach the age of 21. Parents themselves may also be unaware of some of  these restrictions. The Secretary of States Office  is aware of many of the conditions that can cause your teen to be involved in a motor vehicle accident and has made an effort to make sure that your children will grow into safe and responsible adult drivers.

The Graduated Driver's Licenses link on this page will take you to the Secretary of State's web page on this topic; which will have a lot of useful information and even answers some frequently asked question.

Court Supervision for Teens

As of January 1, 2008, if you are a teen driver under the age of 18, in order to receive court supervision a parent or guardian must accompany you to the court on the date listed at the bottom of your ticket. You must attend traffic school in order to complete your supervision. You may not request court supervision by mail. (Public Act 95-0310)
